The Japanese central bank stated that the pilot project will be conducted in partnership with three megabanks, with a special focus on CBDC issuance and withdrawal. In addition to the megabanks, several regional banks will also participate in the pilot project.
A final decision on the transition to the digital yen is expected in 2026.
